Khula in Pakistan is the legal right of a Muslim woman to seek separation from her husband through the court, without the husband’s consent. Unlike a divorce initiated by a man, Khula is a woman’s way to end the marriage if she no longer wishes to stay in the relationship for personal, emotional, or religious reasons. According to Khula Pakistani law, the wife must approach the Family Court and present valid reasons for her decision. The court, after reviewing the case, may grant the Khula by dissolving the marriage contract, often requiring the woman to return her dower (Haq Mehr).
